Bio

Trisha Chu is a self-taught mixed media artist from Vancouver, BC. She works mainly with acrylic mediums on various surfaces. She embraces a more organic approach often working directly on her canvas, mixing colours and blending mediums. Her work focuses on past and present experiences, the connections between herself and those close to her heart.

Her first solo exhibition, Kool Aid Dreamer Art Exhibition in 2007, was inspired and dedicated to her late cousin BJ Lim. He continues to be her inspiration and his spirit remains alive in her heart. Trisha is recognized as an artist through her expressive texture and stunning colour combinations. She prefers creating abstract art because it bypasses the intellect, speaking to the heart rather than the mind. This non figurative, nonobjective style leaves the viewers to discover their own meanings and interpretations of the art.

Trisha Chu’s latest collection uses watercolour, Indian ink, acrylic inks and other mediums on Yupo paper. Yupo paper is 100% recyclable, waterproof, synthetic material. Together the different inks and mediums on yupo paper convey an almost three-dimensional illusion; each piece unique to their own moment of creation.

A portion of Trisha’s net proceeds are donated to Autism Society of BC. The Autism Society of British Columbia (ASBC) was started in 1975 and is a parent based and directed society providing support to individuals with autism and their families in British Columbia and Yukon.
